Vidant brings free health services to rural communities – Washington Daily News


Community Health Improvement Coach at Vidant Beaufort Hospital, a 35-foot mobile wellness unit, will soon be hitting the road providing free wellness services in Beaufort and Hyde counties.

The unit will make its first hike in the area on Thursday, August 12, offering coach tours as well as Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.

“At Vidant Beaufort Hospital, we believe that the prevention and early detection of chronic disease and cancer can improve your future health and well-being,” said Vidant. “… The Community Health Improvement Coach will be visiting locations in Beaufort and Hyde counties offering free wellness and cancer screenings. Our goal is to provide much needed screening in rural communities with the hope of catching chronic disease and cancer in the early stages. “

Specific services provided on the coach include adult wellness screenings, which involve assessments of body mass index, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol; clinical breast exams and skin cancer screenings; and health education including colorectal cancer education using Vidant’s ‘colossal colon’ display, stroke awareness, physical activity advice, diet , nutrition and weight management; and the importance of smoking cessation.

The bus must make the following stops on its first round: Vidant Family Medicine in Aurora, 8 am to 8:45 am; Blounts Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 9 am to 9:30 am; Vidant Family Medicine in Chocowinity, 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Washington-Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Historic Center for the Elderly, Bath, 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. Vidant multispecialty clinic in Belhaven, 2.15pm – 2.45pm; Hyde County Health Department in Swan Ward, 3:15 p.m. to 4 p.m. and Martelle’s food house in Engelhard, from 4.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.
