Humana finds 20% of Medicare Advantage spending can be met through home care services



Home care has become a crucial part of care plans for primary care providers (PCP), according to a new value-based care report from Humana (NYSE: HUM).

The report tracked physician progress and patient outcomes based on the 2020 data and highlighted how value-based PCPs may have leveraged home care to improve some of those outcomes.

The company has its own goal of having half of its Medicare Advantage (MA) members in a value-based home health model by 2027. On the primary care front, Humana’s CenterWell is one of the most large primary care groups based on country value. .

Specifically, the report states that 20% of her AD expenses can be met through home care services. He also reported that MA members who received home care from Humana’s Kindred at Home saw 11% fewer readmissions than when they received home health services from other providers.

The report also touted Humana’s partnership with home medical care provider DispatchHealth, saying the urgent visits the company provides on behalf of Humana cost 80% less than emergency room visits.

“New partnerships with organizations focused on primary and urgent care home clinical visits provide additional access points to care for members,” the report said. “These options are particularly suited to members whose traditional primary care clinics are out of reach due to the inability to find a local doctor’s office or home status.”
